Annual Theological Lectures at Queen's University, Belfast

The Lectures are to be given by Canon Dr. Christina Baxter, Principal of St. John's College, Nottingham, and Lay Chairperson, General Synod, Church of England.

They will be held on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd February 1999 in The Geography Lecture Theatre, Elmwood Avenue (directly opposite the Church of Ireland Centre at 22 Elmwood Avenue) at 5.30 pm

Tea & biscuits will be served from 4.45pm in "The Oasis Cafe" in the Church of Ireland Centre.

 The titles are:
  • Lecture I: "AUTHORITY AND SERVICE IN CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP TODAY:
    A Conversation with St. Paul in Corinthians."
  • Lecture II: "SERVICE AND AUTHORITY IN CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP TOMORROW:
    Questions posed to us by St. Paul and the Corinthians."

This year's theological lecturer continues in a long line of high calibre anglican theologians to visit Queen's. Canon Dr. Christina Baxter is the Principal of St. John s College, Nottingham, one of the leading anglican theological colleges in England.

Dr. Baxter is involved at the very heart of the Church of England as Chairperson of the house of laity of the General Synod, a member of the doctrine commission, member of the General Synod policy committee and a member of the Anglican Consultative Council.

As a theologian Dr. Baxter has a growing worldwide reputation, she was the Church of England Representative on the Partners in Mission Consultation in South Africa and in 1996 gave the prestigious Warfield Lectures at Princeton Theological Seminary where she was visiting professor in 1990.

Dr. Baxter has been a member of the Archbishops Advisory Group since 1993, her immense contribution to the Church of England was recognised in 1996 when she was appointed lay Canon Theologian, Coventry Cathedral.
