In recent years there has been a renewed focus on the Dublin
cathedrals but rather less attention has been paid to the parish
churches of Dublin and particularly those of the inner city. In part, to
redress this imbalance and to celebrate the cultural riches of these
buildings, the parishes which they serve, and the new uses to which some
of them have been put, the Representative
Church Body Library has arranged an exhibition. Entitled "The
Dublin City Churches Revisited", the exhibition will be opened in
the Dublin Civic Museum by the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Walton Empey, on
Friday evening.
The text of the exhibition is based on the well known book 'The
Dublin City Churches of the Church of Ireland', written by Maurice Craig
and the late Henry Wheeler and published by the APCK in 1948, and
additional text has been written to bring the story up to date. The text
is illustrated with archives, manuscripts, photographs, prints and
printed books from the collections of the Representative Church Body
Library, which is the library and principal archives of the Church of
Ireland.
"The Dublin City Churches Revisited" will run until the end
of September. The Dublin Civic Museum is located at 58 South William
