SPCK online debate

October 25th 2001

  • SPCK a Mission Society over 300 years old and still innovating
  • A multi million pound organisation with over 300 staff.
  • Still promoting Christ, still learning.
  • SPCK announce the launch of their first Online Debate
  • What are the questions about Christianity that you have always wanted answered?

Here's your chance to quiz one of the most eminent of theologians and New Testament specialists, the Revd. Dr. Tom Wright, SPCK's Research Fellow.

Tom Wright, will be leading the debate. Register now at http://www.spckonlinedebate.org.uk  and put your questions! This is the opportunity for anyone whether from the secular or non-secular world to pose those questions on Christianity that they have always wanted to ask. The announcement below is being used to promote what SPCK believes may be the first Worldwide debate on Christianity.

Tom Wright is the Canon Theologian of Westminster Abbey, and the author of many important and significant books. He has been a lecturer in New Testament Studies (Cambridge, McGill and Oxford Universities) and Dean of Lichfield Cathedral.

The debate will take place on Thursday October 25th between 6.00pm and 7.30pm (UK time), 17.00 - 18.30 (GMT). The debate will be 'live' - Tom will be online from his study at Westminster Abbey, and you are invited to join him over the Web from wherever you are!

The registration system is now open.

You can register today at http://www.spckonlinedebate.org.uk and up to and including the day of the debate itself, but you are encouraged to do so earlier rather than later. (If the event becomes over-subscribed, earlier registrations will have priority.)

The new General Secretary of SPCK Graeme King commented, "The World Wide Web gives us a tool to enable us to fulfil our Mission to Promote Christian Knowledge through Education and Literature. SPCK Online is determined to be seen as a leader in innovation. Our aim has always been to develop this site in such a way that the human contact is still apparent. The success of our 'Ask the Bookseller' facility whereby users can pose questions online to assist them in locating new and out of print books supports this approach. This is another first for SPCK."
