DEATH OF FORMER RECTOR OF DUNLAVIN

THE REVD HARRY BROOKS

Friday 20th October 2000

On Friday, 20 October, 2000 the Archbishop of Dublin and Bishop of Glendalough, the Most Reverend Dr Walton Empey, presided at a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of the Revd Harry Brooks, formerly Rector of Dunlavin, Ballymore Eustace and Hollywood Union, in Christ Church Taney, Dundrum. Mr. Brooks, who died on Tuesday was 88.

Also taking part were Canon Desmond Sinnamon, Rector of Taney, Revd Jonathan Pierce, curate, and Canon Charles Lloyd, formerly Rector of New Ross. Following the service burial took place in St Nicholas’s Churchyard, Dunlavin.

Mr Brooks is survived by his daughters, Alison Williams and Penny Johnson. His wife, Lillian, died in 1990.

The Revd Harry Brooks grew up in Dublin and was educated at The King’s Hospital. He always wanted to be ordained but circumstances did not allow this until he was much older. Then after a career in the Insurance industry he began studies for the ministry at the age of 50.

In 1964 he was ordained and served as curate of St Michan’s & St. Paul’s inner city parishes for three years before becoming Rector of Dunlavin, Ballymore Eustace and Hollywood Union. On his retirement in 1985 he returned to live in Dublin.
