THE REVD MAUREEN RYAN APPOINTED
DIOCESAN REPRESENTATIVE CANON
IN ST. PATRICK'S CATHEDRAL, DUBLIN

   Tuesday 10th October 2000

The Bishop of Tuam Killala and Achonry, the Rt Rev Richard Henderson, has appointed the Revd Maureen Ryan to be the diocesan representative Canon in St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin.

Maureen Ryan, a psychologist and writer, is married to Dr. Paul Ryan, professor of Geology at NUIG. She has two married children and has lived in Galway for 30 years.

She is a graduate of the University of Keele and NUIG where she did postgraduate work in psychology and held a teaching fellowship. She later taught at Oxford Brooks University, and for the Extra-Mural and Women's Studies Departments in NUIG. She has a strong commitment to adult and continuing education both in the Church and in the wider community.

She was ordained to the Auxiliary Ministry in 1998 in Tuam Cathedral and in 1999 was priest in charge of the Tuam Cathedral group of parishes for twelve months during an interregnum. She is now Vicar General of the Cathedral, Assistant Priest in Saint Nicholas' Collegiate Church, Galway and was privileged to be part of the organising committee of the Fis Conference this year.
