A new video Profiles of Faith – produced by
under the auspices of the Church of Ireland Central Communications Board
will be launched in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin on Tuesday, 15
February 2000 at 12 noon by the Archbishop of Dublin, The Most Rev W N F
Empey and in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast on Friday, 18 February 2000
at 11.00a.m. by the Archbishop of Armagh, The Most Rev Dr R H A Eames.
The video, which consists of four short programmes on the nature of
Christian faith and belief as we move into a new century, is being sent
as a gift to the Rectors of all Church of Ireland parishes. It is hoped
that it may prove a useful basis for parish discussion groups, perhaps
in this coming Lent, (or at some other suitable point in this year).
Four Irish Christians - Bishop James Mehaffey of
Derry and Raphoe, Mr. Patrick Comerford a journalist with the Irish
Times, Mrs. Violet Thorburn a teacher and foster parent in Donegal and
the Revd Daniel Nuzum recently ordained, (but interviewed while still a
student) - each discuss what makes them believe, where they find the
challenges to belief and how they confront these challenges. Never
intended as a comfortable or facile look at faith, these programmes
will, it is hoped, make Christians of all ages think afresh about their
own personal faith.
Profiles of Faith, which has been produced by
Westway Films, has been funded by the Priorities Fund, the General Synod
Royalties Fund and the Representative Church Body and is intended as a
contribution to the life and mission of the Church of Ireland as we
enter a new Christian millennium. The video packs will be accompanied by
ideas for use in parishes and suggested questions for groups or
individuals to ponder.
Journalists are welcome and copies of the video will
be available.
