| A new cross community seminar to explore the mission and heritage of
Ireland's Patron Saint is to be held in St Patrick's Memorial Church at
Saul near Downpatrick on Saturday, 3 March 2001.
The initiative follows refurbishment of the parish hall which was
supported by a grant from the Down District Partnership Board.
Young people from local schools and representatives of various
community organisations will attend and take part in discussions around
the theme of St Patrick's mission and message.
One of the organisers, Mrs Maureen Donnelly, said: "This is an
exciting new initiative at Saul which will focus on prayer and
reconciliation in our society. It is entirely appropriate that the place
where Patrick began his mission in Ireland should inspire us all to
reach out to one another in a spirit of understanding and faith."
The guest speakers will be the Rev Johnston McMaster who will talk
about "Celtic Spirituality" and Mr Michael King, curator of
Down County Museum, who will provide a vivid appreciation of "The
Early Monasteries in Down".
The one-day seminar will include lunch and the closing act of worship
will be led by the Revd Nigel Kirkpatrick, curate of the Lecale Group.
The cost is £5 per person and places may be booked by contacting:
