Bishops' Advisory Commission on Doctrine
Statement From The Archbishop Of Dublin And The Chair Of The Board For Social Theology in Action
Press Releases
Added on 08/11/2012
The Church of Ireland Board for Social Theology, in reflecting on the current constitutional debate over children’s rights in the Republic of Ireland, is very aware of the important role the Constitution of Ireland has played in contributing to life and society in Ireland since its inception. It is the mark of a mature democracy that Irish society addresses new issues, which may not have been envisioned by the original framers of the Constitution.
To this end, the discussion deserves both our active engagement and participation in the polling booths. The Board encourages members of the Church of Ireland and, indeed, all who have a vote, to ensure that they give informed and conscientious consideration to the issues and exercise their franchise. Ultimately, notwithstanding either possible referendum result, we encourage all to work continuously towards enhancing the quality of life for children across the country.
