Press Releases

Added on 04/10/2004

The Church of Ireland is to launch Visual Liturgy 4.0, an electronic version of the Book of Common Prayer (2004), on Tuesday, 12th October in both Dublin and Armagh.

The launch in the church’s northern province will be at the Armagh Diocesan Synod meeting in the Synod Hall in Armagh at 2pm. Later that day at 6.45pm the launch for the southern province will be in Taney Parish Centre (Dublin) at the meeting of the Synods of Dublin & Glendalough.

The launches will be conducted by Canon Ricky Rountree, the Church of Ireland Central Liturgical Officer, and Rev Alan Rufli, Electronic Liturgy Officer, and will be attended by Mr Alan Mitchell, Marketing Manager of Church House Publishing, London.

Said Canon Rountree: “Visual Liturgy 4.0 for the Church of Ireland, provides a full electronic version of the Book of Common Prayer (2004) with a host of extra resource material drawn from the Church of England. The software provides quick and easy access to the authorized liturgy of the Church of Ireland alongside the world leading service and worship planning features of Visual Liturgy. It allows even the most novice of computer users the ability to create accurate and personalized computer-generated orders of service from the Church of Ireland’s new Book of Common Prayer (2004).”

Also included are Biblical texts from both the NRSV and NIV translations to match the Revised Common Lectionary (as adapted by the Church of Ireland), the Common Worship Psalter pointed for use with Anglican chant and an extension of the Visual Liturgy hymn database to include full texts of non-copyright hymns and first lines of copyright hymns found in Irish Church Hymnal (5th edition).

Visual Liturgy 4.0 for the Church of Ireland has been designed as an add-on to be used with Visual Liturgy 4.0 for Common Worship. Visual Liturgy works on any computer running Microsoft Windows® 98 or higher.

Visual Liturgy 4.0 for Common Worship costs £125 in the UK and €180 in Ireland. The Visual Liturgy 4.0 for the Church of Ireland content module costs £30 in the UK and €45 in Ireland.

The software is available in Ireland from Canon Ricky Rountree, Powerscourt Rectory, Enniskerry, Bray, Co Wicklow. Phone: 01 286 3534, email: Central Liturgical Officer

It is also available in the UK from all good Christian bookshops and Church House Bookshop, 31 Great Smith Street, London SW1P 3BN, tel 020 7898 1300, or on the web at www.chbookshop.co.uk (mail order available) or from the Good Bookshop, Donegall Street, Belfast, website www.goodbookshop.com
