As large scale conflict and economic destitution pushes thousands of people to travel perilously to find refuge, Archbishop Richard Clarke and Archbishop Michael Jackson call on members of the Church of Ireland to respond as an integral action of Christian faith and welcome.
During the early days of the outbreak of Ebola, Bishops’ Appeal released €5,000 to support the efforts of the Leprosy Mission and local partners in Liberia and Guinea to provide protective equipment for hospital staff responding to the virus.
A Lenten Reflection Series focusing on the theme of Compassion is being explored jointly by Bishops’ Appeal and the Church’s Ministry of Healing Ireland.
The Bishops’ Appeal would like to thank all parishes and individuals who have contributed to the Philippines emergency relief fund. Nearly €120,000 and nearly £40,000 has been received for the Philippines and these figures are being added to daily.

Following the devastation brought to the Philippines by Typhoon Haiyan, the Bishops’ Appeal urges people to respond generously and hold special collections over the next two Sundays. An immediate release of €10,000 from the emergency fund has been made to Christian Aid partners on the ground.

In response to the current humanitarian problems and the suffering facing many people in Syria, Archbishop Richard Clarke and Archbishop Michael Jackson have approved an emergency release of Bishops’ Appeal funds to Syria as part of a wider Church of Ireland disaster relief effort.
In past months, there have been whispers of bishops donning football jerseys, wielding fishing nets, walking around holding potties and operating antique vehicles from tractors to bicycles, all in the name of highlighting and combating gross injustices in the developing world.
