Shinrone bicentenary book exceeds expectations
The Church of Ireland community in Shinrone has expressed surprise and delight at the success of its recently launched bicentenary book. Demand has exceeded all expectations and over fifty percent of the book run was sold within a few days. David Meredith outlined how orders have been coming in from across the country and the Offaly History web shop is taking a further delivery of books to satisfy online orders. Cyril Stanley commented that the response and level of interest was summed up best by one parishioner who announced that “there’ll be no more work done today…that book won’t be put down” while the despondent husband of another lamented that “he hadn’t even looked at the book as his wife hadn’t left it down yet”.

Reaction from everyone has been wonderful and people from across the community have taken a real interest in St Mary’s contribution to Shinrone over the years. As one contributor noted: “The bicentenary publication adds to the literary, social and spiritual story of south Offaly.” The Book Committee were at pains to express their thanks to all who contributed to the book and wanted to acknowledge all those people, both local and further afield, who had purchased a copy.
