Business Continues on Day One of General Synod 2022

The opening session of General Synod 2022 continues in the Assembly Buildings, Belfast. Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Revd John McDowell, welcomed members of Synod and the Synod’s ecumenical guests.

Guests this year include: Pastor Tai Makinde of the Redeemed Christian Church; Dr Damian Jackson of the Irish Council of Churches; Prof Charlotte Methuen of the Scottish Episcopal Church; the Very Revd Dr William Henry of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland; Mr Alan Martin of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland; the Revd Dr Sahr Yambasu of the Methodist Church in Ireland; Ms Hazel Loney of the Methodist Church in Ireland and Ms Margaret Fraser of the Society of Friends.

The Archbishop nominated Mr Lyndon McCann to be his assessor. Hon Sec, Canon Gillian Wharton, made a number of procedural announcements.

Motion 1 on the timetable was proposed by Canon Wharton and passed. The list of members of General Synod was laid on the table along with a number of other documents.

Synod has now broken for lunch and will resume at 2pm.
