DEATH OF ARCHDEACON D.H. PATTON

The death took place on Sunday 2 November of Archdeacon Desmond Hilton Patton, formerly Archdeacon of Ossory & Leighlin and Chaplain to the Mageough Home. (1978-88)

In his 91st year Archdeacon Patton was educated at The King's Hospital and Trinity College, Dublin. He was ordained a deacon in 1936 (priest 1937) and served three curacies before becoming Rector of Aghade and Ardoyne in Leighlin Diocese in 1942. In 1950 he was appointed Rector of Clonenagh Union where he spent ten years. From there he moved to Carlow Union where he spent 18 years as rector.

From 1962-76 he was Archdeacon of Ossory & Leighlin. Following his retirement from the full-time ministry in 1978 he spent ten years as Chaplain to the Mageough Home in Dublin.

The Funeral Service will be in Christ Church Delgany on Thursday 6 November 2003 at 3.00 pm followed by burial in the adjoining churchyard.

Archdeacon Patton is survived by his daughters, Deirdre and Evelyn, and son Bill.
