Bill Makes Space for Provision of Email Address for New Synod Members

Bill Makes Space for Provision of Email Address for New Synod Members

A Bill seeking to amend the General Synod declaration form to provide a space for an email address was presented at Synod today (Friday May 12).

Currently, the Constitution does not require newly elected lay General Synod representatives or supplementalists to provide an email address as part of the declaration form. Given the increase in communication to General Synod members via email, Bill No 4 seeks to amend the declaration form in Chapter I.

The Bill is being proposed and seconded by Hon Secs of Synod, Canon Malcolm Kingston and Hazel Corrigan.

“In today’s world, a most convenient means of communication is electronic mail.  Already much of our Synod correspondence is by electronic mail, therefore in order to assist the Synod Officer to communicate with General Synod members, by way of Bill No. 4, the Honorary Secretaries are simply requesting that an email address is offered by elected members on their Declaration Form, so that a database of addresses can more be easily compiled for the next and future sessions of General Synod.  Naturally email addresses will be managed in a GDPR–compliant fashion,” Canon Kingston said.

The Bill passed its first and second stages and will receive its third reading on Tuesday evening (May 16) when Synod meets online.
