Bill to Amend Constitution Regarding Board of St Patrick’s Cathedral Name Change

A Bill seeking to amend the Constitution of the Church of Ireland to reflect the change in name of the Board of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, was proposed at General Synod today (Friday May 12).

The Board, which manages various functions of the Cathedral, was originally incorporated under the name ‘The Board of St Patrick’s Cathedral Company Limited by Guarantee’. On November 30 2021 the Board changed its name to ‘Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin’ as it is entitled to do under the Companies Act 2014. Bill No 5, in the name of the Very Revd Dr William Morton and Canon Jennifer McWhirter, seeks to amend the Constitution to reflect this change.

The Bill passed its first and second stages and will receive its third and final reading on Tuesday May 16 when Synod will meet online.
