Motion Facilitates Changes to Standing Committee Elections

Motion Facilitates Changes to Standing Committee Elections

A motion to allow for Standing Committee elections to take place earlier in the year and via electronic means was passed by General Synod this morning (Saturday May 13). The motion was proposed by Canon Malcolm Kingston on behalf of the Honorary Secretaries who said this would reduce added stress on staff in the build–up to General Synod.

He said if passed the motion would also enable ballots to be held via electronic means rather than by postal ballot which was faster and cheaper than postal ballots.

Canon Kingston said that a ballot would only take place if there was more than one nominated person for a particular position.

He outlined the process for electronic voting and explained that voter anonymity would be guaranteed.
