St Brigid’s Cathedral, Kildare
Site
The cathedral site is associated with the ancient sacred fire of Brigid. This association is clearly depicted in the east window of the tower with Brigid symbolised with a flame alight above her head. In pre–Christian times Brigit was celebrated through the welcoming of Spring, at the Imbolg Festival.
Outlined in the excellent little book by a former dean of the cathedral, the Very Revd John Paterson, are all details of the site, the cathedral building, and a historical timeline providing context and points of interest, ideal context and guide for a visit (see bibliography below).
