General Synod 2024 Begins Today in Armagh

General Synod will kick off today at the Armagh City Hotel in Armagh at 11am, following the Synod service at Armagh Cathedral

The General Synod of the Church of Ireland returns to Armagh for the first time since 2018. General Synod 2024 gets underway today (Friday May 10) in the Armagh City Hotel. Synod will continue in person tomorrow, Saturday May 11, and members will conclude business online on Tuesday evening next, May 14. A second remote session is planned for Thursday May 16 if required.

Synod begins with a service of Holy Communion in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh. The preacher will be the Bishop of Clogher, the Rt Revd Dr Ian Ellis. A short act of worship marks the beginning of each day’s business. Worship this year will be led by Archdeacon Elizabeth Cairns.

Business will get underway at 11am this morning when the President of Synod, Archbishop John McDowell, will take the chair. The Archbishop will give the Presidential Address this morning also.
