A Bill to amend the Book of Common Prayer to observe the Second Sunday in November as Remembrance Sunday was proposed at the General Synod of the Church of Ireland today (Friday May 10).

A Bill to amend the Book of Common Prayer to observe the Second Sunday in November as Remembrance Sunday was proposed at the General Synod of the Church of Ireland today (Friday May 10).

Last year General Synod approved a resolution granting leave for the introduction of this special Bill this year. If passed, the words ‘Remembrance Sunday is observed on the Second Sunday in November’ will be inserted below the table of readings for that day.

Proposing the Bill, the Revd Adrian Dorrian, explained that the insertion of this one line seeks to bring clarity to the table of readings in the Book of Common Prayer with regard to the lections for use on Remembrance Sunday.

The passed its first and second stages.
