St Patrick’s Gift Day
Tomorrow (Saturday) the Dean’s Gift Day will be held in St Patrick’s cathedral, Dublin where the Dean, Dr William Morton, will be present to receive contributions.
This year the subject of the appeal is the cathedral’s Willis organ. The instrument was installed in 1902 and restored in 1963. Since the late 1990s the organ has been maintained by Kildare based organ builder, Trevor Crowe, but now requires more major work in some areas. The organ, together with the choirs, is at he heart of the cathedral’s liturgical life and is viewed as the most important romantic instrument in Ireland.

The Raymond Russell Memorial Recital with music from Monkstown Parish Choir and the Students of the ACCM will be presented by Church Music Dublin tomorrow (Saturday) at 4pm at Monkstown parish church. Further information may be had at info@churchmusicdublin.org
Music in Calary, in Calary parish church, Co.Wicklow, will begin a June piano festival tomorrow (Saturday) with a recital by Lance Coburn (piano) and Miriam Roycroft (cello). Thiis will be followed on Wednesday with a recital by pianists, Ella Nagy and Sulamita Pyvovar. The concerts will begin at 8 pm. On Sunday at 6pm in Christ Church, Londonderry, the Bishop of Derry & Raphoe will ordain Eleanor Craig, Gillian Millar and Linda Hughes to serve in the Ordained Local Ministry. In Christ Church cathedral, Waterford, the Bishop of Cashel, Ossory & Ferns will ordain the Revd Daniel Fleming to the priesthood to serve as curate assistant in the Waterford union of parishes.
At Evensong in St Fin Barre’s cathedral, Cork, three Honorary Canons will be installed including the first Ecumenical Canon (Mrs Gillian Kingston, Methodist Church in Ireland) with the Rev John Ardis being installed as Honorary Canon with responsibility for vocations; and the Revd Robert Ferris as Honorary Canon Missioner. At the same service Mrs Joanna Griffin will be licensed as a Reader.
In St Stephen’s church, Dublin, at 4pm there will be ‘Music for Choir and Organ’ with the Cuore Chamber Choir and Organist, Siobhán Kilkelly.
On Tuesday there will be lunchtime recital in St Mary’s cathedral, Limerick, at 1.15pm by Mark Cooney (oboe) and Peter Barley (piano).
In the Church of Ireland Theological Institute on Wednesday evening at 7.30pm the Director of CITI, Canon Maurice Elliott, will launch Deacon (Beaten Track Publishing). This is the final book in a trilogy of murder mysteries set in the fictional Church of Ireland diocese of Danesford. The author, Ted Woods, will be familiar to many as a former Rector of Rathfarnham. Canon Alastair Graham will also speak to mark the 30th anniversary of the ordination of the Revd Anne Taylor. All are welcome.
