Liturgical Advisory Committee News February 2008

At its meeting on Friday 22nd February, the LAC received update reports from the sub-groups working on the Psalms project, the PRISM Series, Liturgical Space and Electronic Liturgy.

A sample of "Psalms Set to Simple Chants" is being prepared, and will be sent to all incumbents with an accompanying CD which gives just one example of how the psalms might be sung. The notes included will offer other suggestions.

The first publication in the PRISM Series is ready to print. This parish-based programme of adult religious education reflecting on the Holy Communion Two service of the BCP is entitled "Celebrating Communion" , and the LAC hope to launch this at the General Synod in May.

Receiving the report on Liturgical Space, the Committee agreed the need to work closely with those agencies with an interest in this field, and an invitation will be extended to them to attend the June meeting of the LAC.

The Electronic Liturgy Group reported great progress in the development of the Worship page of the Church of Ireland website. Compliant with copyright legislation, much of the Sunday Lectionary material which had to be removed from the site should be available soon, once approved by the Internet Committee.

There was further discussion around the changes in the Marriage Regulations in both jurisdictions, and preparations were made for proposals to be brought before General Synod in 2008 and 2009 to amend the Marriage Service in the Book of Common Prayer.

The meeting also saw the beginning of a dialogue with the Hard Gospel project to explore the needs of the international community in relation to worship material, and helping to meet the spiritual needs of those members of our congregations.

The next meeting is planned for June 11th.
