The Rt Revd Carlos Lopez Lozano, Bishop of Madrid in the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church, was in Ireland last week for a meeting of the South American Missionary Society and he took the opportunity to visit the RCB Library to undertake some research. Bishop Carlos is particularly interested in the role of the Church of Ireland in the foundation of the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church which was for some years under the pastoral care of the Church of Ireland. Its first bishop was consecrated in 1894 by the Archbishop of Dublin, Lord Plunket, assisted by the Bishop of Clogher, Charles Maurice Stack, and the Bishop of Down, Thomas James Welland.

Bishop Carlos was accompanied on his visit to the Library by the Bishop of Kilmore, the Rt Revd Ken Clarke.
