General Synod 2017 Gets Underway Today
The General Synod of the Church of Ireland takes place in the South Court Hotel in Limerick over the coming three days, Thursday May 4 to Saturday May 6. During the three days, elected clergy and lay members along with the Archbishops and Bishops of the Church of Ireland will consider a range of Bills and Motions and receive the reports of a number of Church committees.
Before the formal business of the Synod gets underway, the Synod Eucharist takes place this morning in St Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick, at 10.00 am. The preacher will be the Rt Revd Kenneth Kearon, Bishop of Limerick & Killaloe. Synod proceedings will start at 12.00 noon.

There will be an audio broadcast during Synod and a Twitter feed using the hashtag #coigs. This hashtag will also be used for Facebook and Instagram as well as other social media outlets.
The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon, will be a guest at the Synod Service and will be among the official guests addressing General Synod. A reception for General Synod members will take place at Thomond Park Stadium from 7.00 pm on Thursday evening.
