Literature Committee to produce guidelines on participation in Church life
A guide to participation in the structures and committees of the Church of Ireland is to be produced by Church of Ireland Publishing within two years.
The Literature Committee, which manages the Church of Ireland Publishing Imprint, passed a resolution that will initiate this major project at its meeting on 15th January 2007.
The publication will help members of the laity and clergy to understand the nature of the roles and responsibilities at parish, diocesan and central level. The purpose of the publication is to encourage participation in the Church of Ireland and to demystify the structures which are required to carry on the business of the Church.
Dr Kenneth Milne, Chairman of the Literature Committee said: " With new members of the church increasingly assuming positions of responsibility, especially at parish level, there is a growing need for information as to the nature of the tasks that they are taking on as churchwardens, nominators, and other roles. The production of a resource to help people understand the opportunities to make their contribution most effectively is very timely."
