Church celebrates with flowers ‘The Great I Am’
The parishioners of St Mary’s Parish Church, Ardess, near Kesh welcomed visitors over the Bank Holiday weekend to their magnificent flower festival with the theme “The Great I Am”.
The flower festival opened on Friday and continued until Monday evening.
Floral arrangements were placed around the stained–glass windows and at other strategic positions around the church. The floral designers included Collette Maguire, Gerard McErlean, Austin Stronge, Sandra Irwin, Ann Taggart, Yolanda Campbell, Lorraine Bleakley, Thelma Atwell and Kathleen Monaghan.
A team of people from the parish have been preparing for the fundraising event for months and the large numbers of people attending over the weekend viewed the floral arrangements as well as enjoying tea and coffee in the parish centre.
Additionally, tours were arranged for people to see Kiltierney Deer Park, a monastic site and medieval grange in an enclosed area of 107 hectares. A fine bronze brooch and glass beads found at the site as well as human remains were dated to about 170BC.
