Property news for parishes
The RCB Property Department is highlighting the following initiatives which may be helpful for parishes during the Covid–19 outbreak.
The National Churches Trust is to lead Treasure Ireland – a new project to support historic places of worship in Northern Ireland. The project, which will run over three years, includes a new grants fund which will offer between £500–10,000 for repairs and maintenance to help keep churches in good condition and so prevent expensive repairs.
A number of other initiatives to support churches with their property needs at this time are highlighted in this newsletter from the trust, including advice on caring for a church building during its closure.
Apart from providing emergency relief grants, the National Lottery Heritage Fund is ceasing to give out any new grant money from its normal grant initiatives as it is diverting money from these to fund the emergency fund. Please click here for more information.
The latest e–newsletter from the Historic Religious Buildings Alliance highlights news and planned events on protecting built heritage in churches. Please note that event information is inevitably subject to change and postponement at this time – it is best to contact each event organiser to check the latest details. While the organisation is UK–based, the general principles of its work would apply in the Republic as well.
The National Churches Trust has also highlighted an article from Ecclesiastical Insurance on how greener churches can protect the Earth, reduce outgoings and encourage a more sustainable future for their communities.
