On Saturday 7th November, on the invitation of the Right Rev Dr Paul Colton, Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, the Most Rev Dr Fintan Gavin, Bishop of Cork and Ross, made his first visit as Bishop of Cork and Ross to St Fin Barre’s Cathedral Cork.
The Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, the Rt Rev Andrew Forster, has compared the sacrifice of NHS staff who have put their lives “on the line” to protect people in the pandemic to the soldiers and police officers who gave their lives in two world wars and during the Troubles to protect people’s freedom.
The Remembrance Service in St Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen, was one of the main commemorations in Northern Ireland with five governments represented. The sermon was preached by Archbishop John McDowell.
A service for Remembrance Sunday, 8 November 2020, took place via Zoom from Trinity College Dublin’s Chapel. Archbishop Michael Jackson was the preacher and following the service the Provost laid a wreath at the Hall of Honour.
On Sunday, 8th November 2020, with church buildings closed for public worship in the Republic, an Act of Remembrance took place, as in other years, in St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Cork.

We were all saddened to learn of the death of Maud Cunningham, our Diocesan Secretary. Maud died peacefully at her home in Florencecourt on Tuesday, 3rd November.
