A sermon preached by Archbishop John McDowell at a Service of Reflection for the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II held in the Cathedral Church of St Anne, Belfast, on Tuesday 13 September 2022.
The Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, the Right Reverend Dr Paul Colton, has expressed sympathy, following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, to fellow members of the Church of Ireland in Northern Ireland and also to British citizens living in Cork, and especially those who are members of the United Dioceses of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.
Many of those gathering for the Service of Enthronement of the Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd Dr Ian Ellis, in St Macartin’s Cathedral, Clogher, on Thursday evening learned off the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the service.
As a mark of respect, in observance of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Service of Enthronement for the Bishop of Clogher, which was to take place today (Sunday 11th September), has been postponed until Sunday 25th September 2022 at 7.00pm in St Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen.
In the course of his address for BBC Radio Ulster’s Morning Service, at St Columba’s, Knock, this morning (11th September), Archbishop John McDowell reflected on the birth and early life of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
“The well spring for her long reign was her deep Christian faith expressed in love. She loved and was loved in return by so many people.”
“Above all, Queen Elizabeth was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. She took many opportunities, especially in her Christmas speeches, to speak of her faith and point others towards him.”
“She did not disguise the roots of these qualities in her Christian faith but gave sterling witness to a practical belief in God, something for which Christian leaders like ourselves are especially grateful in time of changing culture.”
“Although our hearts are saddened by the death of Queen Elizabeth II, we give thanks to Almighty God for her long life and draw inspiration from the example of her clear faith, her devotion to Christ and selfless service.”
