Many parish registers were destroyed in the fire in the Public Record Office of Ireland in 1922. For listings of those records which were destroyed and those which survive, see Noel Reid (ed.), A table of Church of Ireland parochial records and copies (Irish Family History Society, Naas, 1994).
The Library holds records from over 1,000 parishes, chapels of ease and chaplaincies.
Detailed handlists of all these collections are available in the Library.
With the exception of registers of baptisms, marriages and burials all classes of parish record are subject to a 40 year access rule.

Records of baptisms, marriages and burials for parish registers in the city of Dublin and Cos Carlow and Kerry are available on a free government website www.irishgenealogy.ie.
Records of protestant marriages from 1845 and all births and deaths from 1864 are available from the General Register Office, Government Offices, Convent Road, Roscommon, Co. Roscommon – www.groireland.ie
