The Word of God
A Psalm
Psalm 70
1O God, make | speed to | save me; ■
O | Lord, make | haste to | help me.
2Let those who seek my life be put to | shame and con | fusion; ■
let them be turned back and dis | graced who | wish me | evil.
3Let those who | mock and de | ride me ■
turn | back be | cause of their | shame.
4But let all who seek you rejoice and be | glad in | you; ■
let those who love your salvation say | always, | ‘Great is the | Lord!’
5As for me, I am | poor and | needy; ■
come to me | quickly, | O | God.
6You are my help and | my de | liverer; ■
O | Lord, do | not de | lay.
Psalm 71
1In you, O Lord, do | I seek | refuge; ■
let me | never be | put to | shame.
2In your righteousness, deliver me and | set me | free; ■
incline your | ear to | me and | save me.
3Be for me a stronghold to which I may | ever re | sort; ■
send out to save me, for | you are my | rock•and my | fortress.
4Deliver me, my God, from the | hand of the | wicked, ■
from the grasp of the evil | doer | and the op | pressor.
5For you are my hope, | O Lord | God, ■
my confidence, | even | from my | youth.
6Upon you have I leaned from my birth, when you drew me from my | mother’s | womb; ■
my praise | shall be | always of | you.
7I have become a | portent to | many, ■
but you are my | refuge | and my | strength.
8Let my mouth be | full of your | praise ■
and your | glory | all the day | long.
9Do not cast me away in the time of | old | age; ■
forsake me | not•when my | strength | fails.
10For my enemies are | talking a | gainst me, ■
and those who lie in wait for my | life take | counsel to | gether.
11They say, ‘God has forsaken him; pur | sue him and | take him, ■
be | cause•there is | none•to de | liver him.’
12O God, | be not | far from me; ■
come quickly to | help me, | O my | God.
13Let those who are against me be put to | shame and dis | grace; ■
let those who seek to do me evil be | covered with | scorn•and re | proach.
14But as for me I will | hope con | tinually ■
and will | praise you | more and | more.
15My mouth shall tell of your righteousness and salvation | all the day | long, ■
for I | know no | end of the | telling.
16I will begin with the mighty works of the | Lord | God; ■
I will recall your | righteousness, | yours a | lone.
17O God, you have taught me since | I was | young, ■
and to this day I | tell•of your | wonderful | works.
18Forsake me not, O God, when I am | old and grey- | headed, ■
till I make known your deeds to the next generation and your power to | all that | are to | come.
19Your righteousness, O God, | reaches•to the | heavens; ■
in the great things you have done, | who is like | you, O | God?
20What troubles and adversities | you have | shown me, ■
and yet you will turn and refresh me and bring me from the | deep of the | earth a | gain.
21In | crease my | honour; ■
turn a | gain and | comfort | me.
22Therefore will I praise you upon the harp for your faithfulness, | O my | God; ■
I will sing to you with the lyre, O | Holy | One of | Israel.
23My lips will sing | out•as I | play to you, ■
and so will my | soul, which | you have re | deemed.
24My tongue also will tell of your righteousness | all the day | long, ■
for they shall be shamed and disgraced who | sought to | do me | evil.
A Canticle
Which may be said here or between the readings
Saviour of the World
1 Jesus, Saviour of the world,
come to us in your mercy:
we look to you to save and help us.
2 By your cross and your life laid down
you set your people free:
we look to you to save and help us.
3 When they were ready to perish you saved your disciples:
we look to you to come to our help.
4 In the greatness of your mercy, loose us from our chains,
forgive the sins of all your people.
5? Make yourself known as our Saviour and mighty Deliverer;
save and help us that we may praise you.
6 Come now and dwell with us Lord Christ Jesus:
hear our prayer and be with us always.
7 And when you come in your glory:
make us to be one with you
and to share the life of your kingdom. Amen.

The Gospel Canticle
Benedictus
1 Blessèd be the Lord the God of Israel,
who has come to his people and set them free.
2 The Lord has raised up for us a mighty saviour,
born of the house of his servant David.
3 Through the holy prophets God promised of old
to save us from our enemies,
from the hands of those who hate us,
4 to show mercy to our forebears,
and to remember his holy covenant.
5 This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hand of our enemies.
6 Free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous before him all the days of our life.
7 And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
8 To give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of all their sins.
9 In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us.
10 To shine on those who dwell in darkness
and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning is now and shall be forever. Amen
The Apostles’ Creed
May be said
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayer
Kneel

The Collect of the Day
Almighty and eternal God,
who, for the firmer foundation of our faith,
allowed your holy apostle Thomas
to doubt the resurrection of your Son
till word and sight convinced him:
Grant to us, who have not seen, that we also may believe
and so confess Christ as our Lord and our God;
who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Alternative collects
O God, the author of peace and lover of concord,
to know you is eternal life, and to serve you is perfect freedom:
Defend us in all assaults of our enemies,
that we, surely trusting in your protection,
may not fear the power of any adversaries;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everliving God,
we give you thanks for bringing us safely to this day:
Keep us from falling into sin or running into danger,
and in all things guide us to know and do your will;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Go before us, Lord, in all our doings, with your most gracious favour,
and further us with your continual help;
that in all our works begun, continued and ended in you,
we may glorify your holy name,
and finally by your mercy attain everlasting life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Heavenly Father,
in whom we live and move and have our being:
We humbly pray that your Holy Spirit may so guide and govern us
that in all the cares and occupations of our daily life,
we may never forget your presence
but may remember that we are always walking in your sight,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.
Going out as God’s people
The Lord be with you
All and also with you.
Let us bless the Lord.
All Thanks be to God.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore.
All Amen
To the King of Ages, immortal, invisible, the only God
be honour and glory for ever and ever.
All Amen
May the God of hope
fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
so that by the Holy Spirit
you may abound in hope.
All Amen
